Is there lye in the soap?
Sodium hydroxide (lye) is what turns oil into soap — there is no such thing as cold-process soap made without it. By the time the bar has cured, the reaction is complete and no lye remains. That is why it is listed in the ingredients but the finished bar is mild enough for a baby.
How long does a bar last?
Three to five weeks of daily showers, if you keep it on a draining dish and let it dry between uses. Left sitting in a puddle it will be gone in a fortnight — handmade soap has no hardening agents in it.
Which bar is best for sensitive skin?
The Baby-Soft Unscented Oat Bar, or the Gentle Oatmeal & Goat Milk. Both are fragrance-free and superfatted a little higher, which leaves more of the oils in the finished bar.
Can I use these on my face?
The Tea Tree & Charcoal Face Bar is made for it. The oatmeal bars are mild enough too. We would avoid the Lemon & Poppy Seed Scrub Bar on faces — the seeds are too coarse.
Why does my bar look slightly different from the photo?
Because it was cut by hand from a loaf. Swirls, colour depth and size vary a little from batch to batch. The weight is roughly 100g, and it is soap either way.
Is it vegan?
Most bars are. The exceptions are the ones containing honey, beeswax or goat milk — the Sweet Orange & Honey Bar and the Gentle Oatmeal & Goat Milk. Everything is listed on the product page.
Do you do gift sets or wholesale?
Yes, with notice — bars need four weeks to cure, so allow at least six weeks for a larger order. Email rosen@starsoap.co.uk.
